"Soft Adventure" Gay Tour in ChiangMai
You get to see the city sights as well as some magnificent countryside with this independent tour with a private car, driver and guide.
Chiang Mai has it all! The "Orchid of the North" is not only the cultural and spiritual heart of Thailand, it is surrounded by spectacular old growth forests, lush mountains and wild rivers. Our Chiang Mai Adventure brings you closer to nature with activities that are both exciting and fun. You even have an opportunity for an optional home stay in a funky rural village.
Day One: Explore the Fortress City
Arrive in Chiang Mai and transfer to your hotel. If you arrive early you might like to relax at your hotel or explore the temples, shops, and winding alleys inside the moat-ringed fortress walls of the Old City . This evening your guide will accompany you on a treat-filled evening tour. Why not start with a cocktail by the quiet Ping River , or a feast of Northern Thai specialties. Afterwards, enjoy our introduction to the bustling bazaars and delightful charms of Northern nightlife for clubbing, shows and beer bars, Lanna style.
Day Two: A Mountain Temple with a View
This morning you head to the mountain summit of Doi Suthep to visit a spectacular golden temple that can be seen from practically anywhere in Chiang Mai. Climb the undulating dragon stairway to Chiang Mai's famous temple-in-the-clouds for a sweeping view of the gorgeous countryside and an up-close look at one of Thailand's most revered religious places.
Later in the day, your guide will show you sacred shrines and ancient temples that dot the city, and introduce you to the town's historic and shopping areas. Your evening is free. Sharpen your bargaining skills to obtain arts and crafts hawked in the colorful Night Market , or try some of the local beer bars, which attract many friendly local people.
Enjoy the best sights of Chiang Mai with a private guide, check out the gay nightlife, then a full day of river rafting thrills and a half day "zipline" jungle treetops adventure. You can opt for a homestay in a lovely mountain village if you like. For rafting you need to river sandals or trainers, a pair of shorts, a change of clothes, sunscreen, and money for drinks. This trip caters to all levels, whether you™re an experienced adrenalin junkie or a first time thrill-seeker! Most rapids are class three with a few class four. The best time of year for rafting is May through October when the river is high due to monsoon rains. No pilot's license or experience is required for your "flight" through the treetops. But if you are over 80, have had a recent heart attack, or weigh more than 100 kg/220 pounds, this trip is not for you.
Day Three: Conquer the Mae Taeng
An hour and a half from Chiang Mai, the Mae Taeng River is without a doubt one of the most exciting places.
The Mae Taeng is a steep and continuous mountain stream. The thundering of the next rapid is never far downstream and the occasional pools of calm give a chance to reflect on the awesome beauty surrounding the river. Emerald green fields of rice are terraced high above the river and curious villagers are amazed as we plunge through cascading waves and chutes of foam.
At the river everyone is fitted with rafting gear, then the trip leader and safety kayaker give a lesson in river safety, paddling technique, and what to do if you suddenly find yourself not sitting in a raft anymore. You are going to get wet.
At the end of the trip is the lovely village of Mae Kampong , set in a lush, green Alpine valley. After lunch take a short trek to see waterfalls tucked away in the surrounding forest. You have the choice between spending the night here in a "homestay" or returning to Chiang Mai. (Cost is the same but we need to know your choice in advance. You keep your hotel room through the entire stay so you can leave your luggage there.)
Day Four: Fly Through a Forest
Start the day with a healthy breakfast before you are picked up for a trip to an old growth rainforest . The highlight of the package is a three hour, two km " air trek " high up in the forest canopy using "ziplines "and "skybridges" to take in the glory and majesty of old growth, high altitude pristine rainforest.
You will enjoy spectacular vistas as you fly between 33 different platforms spaced 40 to 50 meters apart as well as three sky bridges. Includes round trip shared transportation from your hotel, a snack, guided nature walk, lunch and souvenir t-shirt. You can choose between early morning, morning or early afternoon pick-up times.
Day Five: The Next Adventure Awaits
Can I stay longer? Of course you can!
You can easily add extra nights and see even more of Chiang Mai, especially if you want to visit hilltribe villages or ride elephants in a forest elephant camp. Click on "Side Trips" below to see the possibilities.
