Our grand luxury Hanoi and Halong Bay trip using the historic Metropole Hotel
Tour Hanoi & Halong Bay in style! Enjoy three lavish nights in Hanoi's grand dame, the five-star Metropole Hotel, transported by chauffeured luxury car, and two days cruising Halong Bay on an intimate Bai Tho Victory Star cruise ship with all meals aboard. You also get the services of one of the charming and knowledgeable personal guides that have made Purple Dragon famous. You do not have to be gay to enjoy this luxury Hanoi and Halong Bay vacation. Our mainstream guests choose us because they know they will get something better from a gay company.
Day One: Ease Into Hanoi
Our chauffeured luxury car is waiting when you arrive at Noi Bai airport. The one hour trip into Hanoi takes you past cornfields, ancient villages, and a flood plain of rice paddies, before you reach the city's ancient, narrow streets. The rest of the day is free for you to explore the Ancient Quarter, or take a twilight cyclo (pedicab) ride around Hoan Kiem Lake.
Day Two: See the Sights
The Metropole's pastry chefs are at work before dawn to make enough breads and croissants for Hanoi's most fabulous breakfast buffet. After breakfast your private guide escorts you by cyclo to enjoy Hanoi's most important sites: Ho Chi Minh's Mausoleum (if open), the One Pillar Pagoda, Temple of Literature, Hoan Kiem Lake, Ngoc Son Pagoda, and the meandering streets of the Ancient Quarter. Tonight you have tickets to the Water Puppet Theater - a uniquely Vietnamese art form combining puppetry, water ballet, and folk music.
Day Three: Halong Bay
After an early breakfast you drive deep into the countryside. Along the way you get an intimate view of rural life in northern Vietnam. Around noon you board a beautifully appointed cruise vessel and sail silently into mystical, magnificent Halong Bay, dotted with dramatic dragon-teeth islands, one of Asia's most photographed natural wonders. You anchor in a quiet cove as twilight paints the bay purple against a flaming orange sky. Sleep aboard as the water slaps softly against the ship. All meals aboard are included.
A Deluxe stateroom aboard the Bai Tho Victory Star is standard with this trip. If you want something even more luxurious, however, we will gladly upgrade you to the beautiful new Paradise Halong. With just 17 luxurious suites and staterooms, a spacious sun deck for enjoying the scenery, a high crew-to-passenger ratio and outstanding cuisine, it's more like a super yacht than a cruise ship. Two night cruises are also available on both the Victory Star and Paradise Halong. Just ask us for details.
Day Four: A Halong Bay Sunrise
Wake at dawn to enjoy an unforgettable sunrise. Or sleep in (after all, it's your holiday). This morning you sail to a different corner of Halong. Maybe you will stop to explore an island cave or two, or anchor for a leisurely swim in a secluded cove. Time seems to disappear here. After a huge lunch of fresh seafood you will return to Hanoi. Tonight is a perfect opportunity to check out Hanoi's gay scene, make an appearance at Apocalypse Now, or one of Hanoi's other hopping night spots.
Day Five: Saigon, Central Vietnam or Beyond?
If you are an early bird, you may enjoy a morning walk around Hoan Kiem Lake before breakfast. Hundreds of people come here to take their morning exercise. Older people practice Tai Chi, shirtless young athletes jog or play badminton. It's a beautiful way to begin the day (be sure to bring a camera). Your chauffeur will deliver you to Noi Bai Airport in time for your flight, or why not continue your grand adventure with some of our great side trips in North Vietnam, or a short flight to Sizzling Saigon or historic Hue and Hoi An? Or even an overnight train the high mountains near the Chinese border to explore Sapa an its rustic villages inhabited by several different ethnic minority groups.
TET Holiday 2018: We regret that we can not accept Vietnam reservations during the period 17 through 20 February due to the TET (Vietnamese New Year) Holiday. Since it is considered unlucky to work during this period, practically everything closes, everyone takes a vacation, and some prices double. We do not recommend visiting during this time because there are no public festivities and visitors are left with almost nothing to do.
Prices and Hotels
This program uses the five-star Sofitel Metropole. However, if you have a specific hotel in mind, please let us know. All of the hotels we use are carefully chosen for location, amenities, quality of service, security and value. We only use hotels that are gay-owned, gay-managed or gay-friendly. We inspect most hotels at least once a year.

Where We Shine: Our guides in Hanoi work for us — not for a local tour company. We are picky about who spends time with our customers so we know you are getting the best guides available. They love to show our guests things that most group tours never have a chance to see. Grand Hanoi is the ultimate way to experience Northern Vietnam. You get to stay in one of the Asia's classic hotels and a night aboard a private luxury sailing vessel in Halong Bay.
