This program is especially designed for food lovers who want to explore Thai culture while they sample Bangkok's abundant selection of sensational Thai cuisine! Purple Dragon has surveyed many cooking schools in Bangkok to find one that allows every student to have their own work station and wok. Why just sit and watch the chef have all the fun? So, roll up your sleeves and prepare to impress all your friends when you get back home and share the Flavors of Siam. When you are not cooking you get to explore Bangkok with a private guide. Shop, explore fresh markets, and enjoy fantastic local restaurants that tourists have not found yet. Although Purple Dragon specializes in LGBT guests, you do not have to be gay to enjoy this great Bangkok foodie holiday. Everyone is welcome to enjoy our tours. Day One: Get Settled in the Big Mango
We're waiting for you at the airport with private car to zip you to your hotel right in the heart of the Silom area. Drop by our office if you would like our recommendations for >Bangkok's Best restaurants, both Thai and international, so that you may experience the very best in dining during your stay.
Day Two: Cook Up a Storm, Then See the Sights!
After an early breakfast you depart your hotel for a charming tropical oasis tucked away in urban Bangkok. During each half-day class you will learn to make classic Thai dishes like green chicken curry, pad thai noodles, banana pudding, spicy prawn soup, or papaya salad. Bring a bit of exotic Bangkok back home to your kitchen to impress your friends and family. It's lots of fun and easy to do! Everyone is provided with an individual cooking station and classes are intimate (limited to 10 people). Four dishes are taught during each half-day class and the menu changes daily (five different menus are offered).
You'll be back at your hotel by 2pm where our guide will join you to explore the city's food, culture and arts. You can customize your program with the guide each day to explore at your own pace: visit the reclining golden Buddha of Wat Po, the glittering chedis of The Grand Palace, the teakwood villa of Jim Thompson, the gay American who resurrected Siam's languishing silk artistry, traditional markets or fabulous shopping bazaars.
This evening select from a fantastic number of dining options in a city that is truly a culinary paradise. Our guide will make sure that you find your way to your preferred choice. If you like, you may invite the guide to join you for dinner (they are at your service until 10pm, so you can even do a little exploration of Bangkok's bustling night markets and famous nightlife after dinner).
Day Three: Another Morning of Cooking
Repeat the previous day's schedule...cooking class at 09:00 followed by your own personal guide at 14:00 for city touring during the afternoon and evening.
Day Four: Explore the Banks of the Chao Praya
For a change of pace today, our guide will pick you up at 10:00 to tour the canals of the "Venice of the East" in a zippylong-tail boat, with a stop at the Royal Barge Museum to see the King's golden armada of celestial boats. Afterwards, drop by Wat Arun, Temple of the Dawn, one of Asia's most memorable sacred sites. Alternatively, you might like to visit one of Bangkok's traditional markets. Then, enjoy a leisurely lunch. By this time you'll recognize many of the dishes and ingredients used to prepare these exotic eatables. Afterwards, our guide is at your service until 18:00. Here is a suggestion to celebrate your final evening in the Big Mango: a three-course dinner in three different restaurants connected with a guide and a private tuktuk for the night. You also get to visit the wholesale flower market and admdire a 360 rooftop view of the Grand Palace, Wat Po and Wat Arun. That's our Bangkok Foodie Crawl!
Day Five: Free Time Until You Depart
Free time until it is time for your private transportation to the airport, or you man extend your stay for additional cooking classes or discover more delights in beautiful Chiang Mai, some time at the beach, or even a side trip to majestic Angkor Wat in nearby Cambodia!
