As a "Bay Arean" for 30 plus years, and seemingly being of  kindred proclivities in politics, love of Herb Cain, and many things and people  Asian,  I posit no argument.  Having stumbled upon your site/company for the first time today as I arrange my first  vacation in 5 years (foolish, yes, to have delayed), just wanted to pass on how refereshing your writing is (...bulging mussels and handsomely stuffed baskets, indeed).  Not to mention that I'm concurrently tumescent and tingly thinking about a vacation via Purple Dragon.

"Had the honor of touring China two year back, with a great friend and guide for 2 weeks- then one more as my passport "went missing", and the difference in having someone familiar with the culture and environs was like day and night.  In planning my vacation-to-be, the options I was looking at on-line were difficult to get a real sense of, and in the back of my mind I was concerned that traveling as a single guy in uncharted territory could be less than fun.  Then,  Purple Dragon reared it's proverbial head!  I've never responded to a blog before, but felt compelled to do so today.  Looking forward to adding my name to your list of highly satisfied customers.  Thank you!  Andy P., Oakland

I just read your blog. I too was a devotee of Herb Caen even tho I was not a San Franciscan. He was read nationwide. A relative sent the following "Note" to me a while back. You may have heard it already, but I want to make sure that you have seen it, because it is a gem. - Paul, from Honolulu

Dear Friends and Relatives:

I have the distinguished honor of being on the committee to raise $5,000,000 for a monument to George W. Bush. We originally wanted to put him on Mt. Rushmore until we discovered there was not enough room for two more faces. We then decided to erect a statue of George in the Washington, DC Hall Of Fame. We were in a quandary as to where the statue should be placed. It was not proper to place it beside the statue of George Washington, who never told a lie, or beside Richard Nixon, who never told the truth, since George could never tell the difference.

We finally decided to place it beside Christopher Columbus, the greatest Republican of them all. He left not knowing where he was going, and when he got there he did not know where he was. He returned not knowing where he had been, decimated the well being of the majority of the population while he was there, and did it all on someone else's money.

Thank you,

George W. Bush Monument Committee

P.S. We have raised $1.35 so far.

Like Mr. Herb in San Francisco, who probably kept on writing and writing until he passed, I hope you don't one day up and decide to quit writing your blog. At 61 years of age I get a lot of fun and laughs from very few things.  Your blog is one of my fun things to do along with traveling to Thailand. Most of the time you have me laughing but there are the times you bring up the passing of a friend or employee. It is then that you make me think of my friends who have departed this plane and I realize that I truly miss them.  Douglas, you missed your true calling ... i think you should have been a journalist. Thank again, John G, Miami
